· All dancers must be within their respective age categories in order to be eligible to participate.
· This Competition is open to any halau, studio, or any dance organization. Independent soloists are also welcome to participate.
· There are no limits in the number of participants submitted per halau.
· Each solo must complete and submit a solo registration form along with their fee ($35) before the deadline, postmarked by March 31, 2012. Any registration forms submitted after the deadline will be assessed a $10 late fee till (postmarked by) April 7th. Please mail Money Order and Checks Only. Do not mail cash.
· Walk-in Late Entries- $55(cash only) will be accepted on Saturday April 14th between 3:00-4:00 pm.
· Every participant must fill out a “HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT” form.
Solo Categories and Divisions are as follows: TAMARII TAMAHINE & TAMAROA AGES: 2-3 YRS (EXHIBITION ONLY) 4-5 YRS 6-7 YRS 8-9 YRS 10-12 YRS
· Contestants will be given their solo numbers on Saturday, April 14th, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the Miller Campus.
· Group leaders are allowed to pick up all solo numbers for their respective halau members.
· Numbers should be pinned in front of the pareu.
· Contestants will be assigned a dressing area at the time of registration.
__DRUMMING/TIME
· All drumming will be provided by the House Drummers for the elimination and final rounds. Dancing will be impromptu.
· Tamari’i Divisions- 1 ½ minutes minimum-2 min maximum
· Taure’are’a Divisions- 2 minutes minimum- 2 ½ maximum
AWARDS
· Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place participants in each category.
· Overall prizes are awarded to the highest scoring Tane and Vahine of the Tamari’I and Taure’are’a Divisions.

COSTUME REQUIREMENTS
· All Vahine ‘Ori Tahiti participants must wear a pareo that is only 1 piece of fabric that reaches no higher than 2 inches above the knee. A 5 point deduction for a short pareu and/or hand held items will be applied. Pareo must be tied on the side. No ruffles or bands may be sewn onto the pareo. Rolling of the pareo and hip bands are NOT allowed. No props or hand-held objects permitted.
· All Tane ‘Ori participants are permitted to wear ‘tihere’ style pareu or a ‘maro’ with very little or no leg adornments.
· Headpieces and traditional necklaces are allowed. Natural products such as shells, feathers, fresh flowers, fresh leaves, seeds, and tapa are acceptable. No artificial or silk flowers are allowed.
ELIMINATION PROCESS
· This elimination round consists of: 1st Round, Semi-Final Round, and Final Round in each age category.
· After the each round, selected dancers advancing into the next round will be announced by number.
· Consequently, the top 4 dancers of each category will automatically move into the Final round competing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
· If there are less than 4 dancers in any age category, each dancer will automatically move into the Final round after the 1st Round.
OVERALL
· The 1st place winners in the Tamari’I Divisions (tane and vahine) will compete for the OVERALL TAMARI’I TANE AWARD and the OVERALL TAMARI’I VAHINE AWARD.
· The 1st place winners in the Taure’are’a Divisions (tane and vahine) will compete for the OVERALL TAURE’ARE’A TANE AWARD and the OVERALL TAURE’ARE’A VAHINE AWARD.
